How to prepare for your Tan Tan Experience

Use a loofah or washcloth to gently exfoliate your entire body 2 to 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Pay special attention to dry areas such as elbows and ankles. Proper exfoliating promotes an even coverage and lengthens the duration of your tan by removing dead skin cells. Do not injure the skin by overdoing it.

Shave (8-12 hours before) or wax (24 hours before) to remove unwanted body hair. Always use a sharp, clean razor with a gently lubricating product (such as hair conditioner).

Avoid wearing make-up, perfume, lotion or deodorant to your appointment. All of these items may prevent the tanning solution from developing properly. Avoid sunless tanning lotion and sprays for at least 7 days prior to your spray tanning appointment. Remove all jewelry.

Wear dark, loose fitting clothing as the solution contains an instant bronzer that may rub off. Although it should wash out of most fabrics, it may stain nylon, lycra, and silk. On rainy days, bring umbrella. Protect your vehicle interior by using a towel to cover leather or light colored seats.

How to maintain your Tan Tan

Allow up to 24 hours, the longer you wait the better results you will achieve. A minimum of 6-8 hours is suggested before showering, using a warm water rinse only (no soap). For best results, waiting 12 to 24 hours is always recommended.

Per Rapid Tan users, please follow the schedule below for your warm-water rinse only (no soap, no hot water):

  • Rinse in 2-hours to achieve Light Bronze Color (warm water only)
  • Rinse in 4-hours to achieve Medium Bronze Color (warm water only)
  • Rinse in 6-hours to achieve Darkest Bronze Color (warm water only)

During this time, avoid contact with water and refrain from strenuous exercise.

During your first shower, you will notice brown colored water going down the drain. Don’t be alarmed! This is normal. It is only the topical cosmetic bronzer washing off the surface of your skin; your real tan is underneath. Dry yourself by gently patting a towel over your skin, avoiding extensive rubbing and exfoliating products which may cause streaking or color removal.

A spray tan fades as the top layer of skin naturally exfoliates (replacing dead skin cells with new ones). To help prevent premature exfoliating, be sure to apply a sunless tan compatible moisturizer twice per day. Avoid excessive use of self-tanning lotions as these can contribute to undesirable tones, streaks, and dryness.

Even with the best trained technicians, equipment and solutions, proper skin care is vital to your spray tanning success. Many store bought products are fantastic for keeping your skin soft, silky and smooth, but can ruin a beautifully applied spray tan. Many of these products were not designed with spray tanning in mind and made to exfoliate skin. This can prematurely fade or even ruin your tan.
